Rosacea Awareness Month!

April 9, 2015

April is Rosacea Awareness Month! Rosacea is a very common skin disorder. In fact, it affects 16 million people! Rosacea is characterized by redness and dilated blood vessels.  It is aggravated by stress, temperature change, sunlight and repeated sun burning, vitamin deficiency, diet and/or medical conditions. Since many of it's triggers are unavoidable, it's important to learn how to take care of alleviating the signs and symptoms when they arise.

It is very important to look for skin care products that are gentle, fragrance free and designed for sensitive skin.  Look for the following ingredients:

  • Green tea, with healing, anti-irritant and anti-oxidant properties.

  • Licorice, which will decongest the skin and has healing properties.

  • Chamomile, which is known to calm the skin.

  • Sea Whip Extract, which is the strongest anti-inflammatory ingredient currently available.  It is recommended for skin conditions such as rosacea, acne, psoriasis and eczema! Sea Whip Extract has also been shown to assist the skin to repair itself. It is a natural solution for sensitive and irritated skin, and the main ingredient in our Anti-Redness System!

Recommended Skin Care:

  1. Merle Norman’s Anti-Redness System consists of a gentle, foaming cleanser that dissolves oil, soil and makeup without stripping the skin of its natural moisture barrier.  It includes the calming ingredients of licorice, feverfew and Sea Whip Extract.  For those who are dry and sensitive with rosacea, you might like the Gentle Solutions Milky Cleanser.

  2. Gentle Solutions Toner is perfect for sensitive, rosacea prone skin.  It is alcohol free plus it has a special ingredient that calms and conditions the skin and prepares it for the treatment cream.

  3. Follow with Anti-Redness Cream, a moisturizing treatment with sea whip, green and white tea extracts protect the skin and prevent future flare ups.  The light green tint helps to neutralize the redness immediately.  It can be used day and night for 24 hour protection.

Eyes can be affected by rosacea as well.  Look for a calming eye gel, such as Revitalizing Eye Gel, with the same recommended ingredients

Anti-Redness Powder is an innovative, loose powder that utilizes a combination of skin-soothing ingredients and a sheer, yellow tint to instantly neutralize red undertones.  Our brilliant chemists have developed a special procedure that encapsulates the liquid form of Sea Whip Extract into hollow microspheres so in can be used in a powder form!  Oatmeal, Chamomile and minerals calm the skin and Revidrate helps maintain its normal moisture level, so this is a perfect powder for dry skin types as well.  Many of our customers use the Anti-Redness Powder alone for a natural, healthy look.

Mineral Makeup tends to be a good choice for those affected with rosacea, primarily because it has the fewest number of ingredients.  Makeup should be hypo allergic, non-comedogenic and easy to apply.  Green and Yellow color correctors may be used in severe cases.

This month we are featuring our Oat and Chamomile Express Facial.  This facial will calm and condition the skin instantly.  The facial is free with your consultation.

* It should be diagnosed by a Dermatologist.  Red skin does not necessarily mean rosacea!
